I'm only mean because I care! (And tired.) I blame the sugar coma.lyredenfersJune 17 2008, 20:52:13 UTC
I'm don't put nearly as much thought into my writing and characters, which I'm sure is obvious to everyone (ADDING, because Imo is being a tool: I mean this in the way that I tend to write fluff and not highly intellectual/analytical stories). I tend to start with an character emotion or small scene and write it out from there. I like for the characters to surprise me -- where's the fun in always knowing what they're going to say/how they're going to react. There's no room for character growth in that! Well, okay, you could carefully plan out their character development, like I'm sure Imo does. But that's not my style.

Puppy says: I was walking along, all lah did dah di (I like to party) I've got a stick in my mouth and them BAM. All of a sudden it was all no stick; WORDS. They were WORDS. How did those get there? Did someone put these words in mah mouth? They don't taste no good. Oooh! Look! A ball! *wags tail*
Some of us are pin the tail on the donkey kind of people (Close your eyes and hope for the best... hey look! Abstract art! Kind of. If you stand really close and squint.) instead of a scholarly debate panel of one (coughImocough).
Of course, the beauty of fanfic is that you already have a set of parameters for your character - what they will and won't do sort of thing. It's fun, then, to explore what would push them beyond these parameters. For example, how they would justify to themselves doing something that is canonically out of character.

I was right, it was just getting interesting! I will not add any of my own inane comments, but I just wanted to congratulate vivien on the icon. Rex the Runt was Aardmann's finest hour.
YES! And Vince is both the cutest and the funniest character ever created.... someone who can marry a vacuum cleaner and catch random Pavarotti disease in the same season must be good!
They showed them over Christmas one year...I remember it was the highlight of the holidays, me and my brothers sat and watched every one. Remember the spaceship in Vince's body?
Heh, yeah... that's probably my favorite episode. It's just the idea of taking a holiday inside Vince's head, and actually finding the screw that's loose! :P

Translation: I am naturally brilliant and don't have to try. I don't put any thought into it and it turns out great!
