Series: Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles
Character: Subaru
Timeline: Post Tokyo Arc
Personality:
Subaru is a kind and compassionate person. He differs from his twin with his more subdued and calmer nature and higher tolerance for general things. He’s reasonable and maybe even a bit shy, but not extensively so. It’s hard to upset Subaru past annoyance, but when he is angry he becomes extremely cold and dangerous, and yet even still he tries to avoid conflict with reasoning. He only becomes very angry or upset when his brother is threatened or hurt.

He isn’t as protective over his brother as much as Kamui as with him outwardly, but inwardly he does worry extensively about Kamui. Although quiet, he speaks the most between himself and Kamui, essentially the more social one. Sadly, since there is so little appearance of him to completely get an analysis on his personality I look to his first character appearance in ‘Tokyo Babylon’. CLAMP has a habit of recycling characters and personalities (to an extent), some of Tsubasa’s Subaru’s personality can be related to Tokyo’s Subaru.

Background:
Subaru’s back history is a complete mystery. From what we do know, he and his brother, Kamui, has been dimension traveling in attempt to run from a hunter in priest-guise, Seishirou. Subaru also seemed to give Seishirou some of his blood, but whether this has had any effect on him is unknown and isn’t shown in canon. They received the ability to travel this way as twins by paying with Subaru’s blood to the Dimension Witch Yuuko.

They arrive in a devastated Tokyo that rains acid on its ruined city. Subaru is pulled into a water reservoir where two of Sakura’s feathers lay. He is put into a deep slumber, telling Kamui that he would not be harmed and that they would have to wait for a while until they could leave again. When Sakura was returned to her feathers Subaru was allowed to waken, but to a devastating sight.

With Fai near death, Kamui gave his blood to him as payment for the return of the water in the reservoir. The blood would turn him into a vampire, but also save his life (Originally is was to be Subaru’s blood, but Kamui volunteered himself.). A day or so later Subaru and Kamui left the city to continue running from the Hunter.

Although it isn’t directly mentioned in canon, it seems that Subaru has a slight hesitation when it comes to running from Seishirou. Although the reasons are unclear, Subaru isn’t as determined to escape the Hunter’s eye as much as Kamui may be.
