This is mostly just for me, but
1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
Grew up a little bit, made a cheesecake from scratch
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't really keep them but I want to work on them more this year:
-WRITE MORE OFTEN, and look for writing jobs
-Move to Germany
-Join an environmental/global warming campaign
-Save some money
-Read more often
-Switch to Linux
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No,but everyone I know is pregnant!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, but I lost a close friend whom I miss quite a bit.
5. What countries did you visit?
The United States? Hopefully this year's travels will include Germany, Jordan, or Israel
6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
More money, a place of my/our own, and a cat. A place to call home, basically.
7. What dates from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
March 25th, Carlos and my anniversary
June 16-July 23, my trip home for summer
December 30, the day of the Madrid airport bombing
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Becoming completely self-employed, and saving some money (finally)
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not being able to be there for friends' important events (Amber's wedding, Dan & Eve's wedding)
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had some serious food poisoning or something back in November. That sucked.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Rain boots, tickets home, the zen player I got Carlos for Christmas
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Everyone's. Everyone has been really supportive of me living so far away and it's nice to know that there are people I can just call and pick up where we left off. I miss them all terribly and appreciate them very much. Also Carlos, who has put up with quite a bit of depression and paranoia from me in the last few months. I'm always surprised at how strong he is.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Just one person, who I miss a lot but we don't seem to see eye to eye.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Plane tickets, rent, the grocery store (since I cook a lot now)
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
All the new foods I cooked (seriously), going home, Carlos
16. What song will always remind you of 2006?
"Opa, yo viace un corra" by El Koala. That song is summer personified.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? happier
b) thinner or fatter? about the same, although after the holidays, a little fatter
c) richer or poorer? richer, but barely
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Stayed in touch with people, saved more money, let other people know how much I love them
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Being paranoid about EVERYTHING, lamenting things I can't change
20. How did you spend Christmas?
Eating turkey with my family and Carlos, and watching Polar Express.
22. Did you fall in love in 2006?
Yes, with perhaps the most important person I have ever met.
23. How many one-night stands?
None!
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Carlos got me hooked on both Lost and Prison Break, but also Gilmore Girls (as always)
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't hate anyone at all.
26. What was the best book you read?
"Kafka on the Shore" by Haruki Murakami, easily. Now I'm reading "Norwegian Wood."
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
select songs from many artists, especially Fito y Fitipaldis
28. What did you want and get?
A boyfriend!
29. What did you want and not get?
My own apartment, a pet, a permanent job
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
V for Vendetta, El Laberinto del Fauno
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 24 in Chicago, went ice skating and to Navy Pier with Carlos, and then to our traditional Olive Garden with my mom for birthday dinner. There was nothing better than being home for Christmas with the people I love the most.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Finding a place where I could spend the rest of my life. Alas, my search must continue.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Practical. Torrential rain, wind, and severe cold kind of call for some massive boots and hardcore sweaters. This year I am trying to create a more elegant, sophisticated image...I just don't know if I'll be able to keep from tripping.
34. What kept you sane?
Carlos.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
No one, really
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
What DIDN'T stir me this year? I think the most urgent is probably our environmental crisis, but basically anything that comes out of Bush's mouth makes me want to vomit.
37. Who did you miss?
Everyone.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Carlos.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006:
DON'T PANIC!
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"quiero vivir, quiero cantar, quiero sentir, el universo sobre mi,
quiero correr en libertad, quiero llorar con felicidad,
como un naufrago en el mar, quiero encontrar mi sitio..."
Happy New Year, everyone!
