Year in Review 2008

Well, it's that time again...after many many weeks of not updating this journal, I hope this will be a good excuse to start again. I will also be posting resolutions and such on jlostinspain, so take a look. For now, it's time for the annual Year in Review.


1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Became a businesswoman!

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Yes! I did move to Belgium, did learn French, did pay student loans, learned about business, and tried really hard to remember birthdays. The only thing I still haven't done is Birthright. This year is my last chance!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Evelina had the cutest baby on the face of the earth!

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No

5. What countries did you visit?
Belgium, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
A boyfriend.

7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
April 9th, the day I started the craziest job ever, and November 4th, the day the world changed.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting a job that allows me to challenge myself, meet new people, travel the world, and have amazing experiences every day.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Missing big events - the birth of Emily, Steph's wedding, Jill's wedding...

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Constant lack of sleep?

11. What was the best thing you bought?
A new suit!

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My friends and family, who are able to pick up where we left off, even if it was a year ago that we last met.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
That brief moment where I thought the American people might actually choose McCain and Palin.

14. Where did most of your money go?
To plane tickets!

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Everything!

16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
Anything by Andra and the BackBone

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Way happier
b) thinner or fatter? Thinner! For once....
c) richer or poorer? Richer! Boy, it's been a good year...

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
See friends and family

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Business phone calls

20. How did you spend Christmas?
In the snow! Watching the fire! With family! Eating turkey! Doing all the Christmas things I love.

22. Did you fall in love in 2008?
Yes, with the world. There's so much to see!!!

23. How many one-night stands?
Well, I never!

24. What was your favorite TV program?
BBC World News...okay okay, and Sex and the City

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope.

26. What was the best book you read?
How can I choose between all the Murakamis, and The Kite Runner, and Life of Pi? There's too many!

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Khaled, Aranis and Andra!

28. What did you want and get?
A job!

29. What did you want and not get?
Nothing, really. I'm pretty content!

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Of this year? The Sex and the City movie, probably

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
On my birthday, I was jetlagged to the max. I could only handle going to the movies, and eating macaroni and cheese at home. I didn't even have a cake or anything and went to bed at like 9:30. Sad.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Nothing. It was a GREAT year.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Business ridiculous? I don't think I really have a personal concept of fashion. Perhaps that's the problem.

34. What kept you sane?
Weekends. Swimming. Massages. Sparkling white wine. Good coworkers.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
BARACK OBAMA

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Election mania!!!

37. Who did you miss?
Everybody, all the time.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
My coworkers and new friends all around the world.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
Anything is possible.
