Here is a brand new story from the Advocate about a legally transgendered man who is now having a baby. WHAT?? Yeah, all I have to say is I think the guy is a little confused about whether or not he really wants to be a man or a woman. The fact that he chose to have a child doesn't bother me at all. His wife couldn't, due to her hysterectomy, and besides that, I know a significant number of transmen who, like male-assigned-at-birth men, feel the pull to have children in their lives that are theirs, biologically. Trans guys freeze their eggs, etc., for this reason all the time ( ... )

I don't believe I am transphobic at all. I think everyone has the right to be whoever or whatever they want. My "confusion" or misunderstanding comes into identity. This particular guy is unhappy that people are completely bewildered by a "pregnant man." This guy is living as a legal man, with his legal wife, in a legal heterosexual situation. But ALSO wants the biological rights of a woman. His neighbors, coworkers, etc recognize him as a man..because this is what he has been portraying... and then he gets upset with these people when he physically expresses that he can also bear children. You can't honestly be upset that people, including doctors, are a little questioning of this. I quite frankly don't give a shit what people do with their lives, who they fuck, or what orifice they are fucking, but when someone portrays him/herself as one thing (a man in this case), they don't have much room to be knitpicky about people's reactions when they decide to attempt something that is conceptually inconceivable (being a pregnant man). Well, I'm sure they'll tell their kids exactly what they're telling us-- his wife is their mother, and he is their father.

Bearing a child does not a woman make. I think that's where we have differences in opinion. There are a lot of men I know who have given birth to children, before transition. This just takes more thought.

And... I think I would be unhappy too, if everyone around me was trying to force their morals on my body. Obviously, you can be a pregnant man, since he is a man, with a uterus, who has decided to use it. "You can't be pregnant because you're a man" is just as elitist in my opinion as "You have to shave your legs, you're a woman."

Ok, here is another post from the website where I heard about this news item. I am not saying I agree with everything she says, but it better reflects some of what I was trying to say. I particularly agree with the part about working so hard to be accepted... That gender is all or nothing, I'm not sure. Yes you have to be male or female as a legal citizen, and there is no identification of a third gender, but there are androgynous people who don't want to be labeled ( ... )
