Why not be an Atheist?

I was listening to back episodes of my favorite podcast again today. The topic was Atheism. The link to the interview is below and I highly recommend listening if you have any interest in religion. I'll share a few of my thoughts on it

I heard somebody say recently that she sort of counted on her Christian faith to help her to be a good person. That, in fact, she want to church because without Christianity she thought she would be a pretty terrible person. That her faith in Jesus called her to be a much better person. (And, this woman was an Episcopal priest.) That's not why I go to church - or how I see religion. But, if it works for folks, I don't have a problem with it.

Some of the best people I know were not people of faith (any faith) and some of the vilest have been faithful people, expressing the worst things in the name of religion. (I'm thinking of some of the stuff folks have said recently about Kevin, for example.)
