Look for alternatives to poisons for fighting plant insects.
Specifically, to keep the snails off of your tomatoes, make an uninterrupted circle of pennies around the base of each of your plants. Alternatively, if you have or have access to copper ribbon, tie a loose ring around the bottom of the plant that is flush with the ground.
If it is snails that are eating your beans, this will work for them too.
