This is a survey on sex scenes, written with some help from
dimmingdivine. Please fill it out, since it's a pretty important tool for anyone who writes sex. Sex is a hard thing to write (for me, anyways), and it's always good to have a guide based on what the readers actually want

depends on the scene. if it's a kink scene, then i would expect some. if it's all vanilla-y, then i'd rather now.
How detailled should a sex scene be?
some things are better left to the imagination. i don't need to know every moan and grunt.
How long should a sex scene be?
if it's a pwp, i hope it's long. i like a good size, but at the same time, just a brief fleeting mention of it is great. again, all depends on the plot.
What should the sex to plot ratio be?
if it's a pwp, 3:1. actual story, 1:3 probably.
Biggest turn-off when reading a sex scene?
really cheesy lines that make me go "oh, god."
Biggest turn-on when reading a sex scene?
really good descriptions.
Biggest sex-scene pet-peeve?
everyone swallowing.
Which words do you hate to see in a sex scene?
rod. 'spot' 'just like that' 'right there!'
i could go on

What are your views on 'vulgar' language during sex scenes?
As always, it really does depend on the mood of the fic. There are certain words that I hate reading in a fic, because it just ruins it, but it's sex. It's not meant to be clean.
How detailled should a sex scene be?
This is tough, actually. I generally don't read a lot of PWP, and so I'm not looking for every detail. A rough description of the events will suffice, and foreplay should always be more detailled than the actual sex.
How long should a sex scene be?
In a quality chaptered fic I'd say maybe 3/4 of a chapter.
What should the sex to plot ratio be?
1:6
Biggest turn-off when reading a sex scene?
Dialogue, as well as excessive moans and whatnot. Some people like a vocal partner or whatever, but I am really quite annoyed by it.
Biggest turn-on when reading a sex scene?I like a little kink. S&M is always enjoyable. I have a weird thing with mentions of pubic hair. I love pubes? Also, really blunt and straightforward ( ... )

I have no problem with it as long as it's not used too much. And please...I HATE the word 'cock.' Once or twice is good enough.
How detailed should a sex scene be?
Well, I do like details. But certain things shouldn't be said. We need to use our imaginations for something!
How long should a sex scene be?
Tops...one page. No more. Maybe even a half a page.
What should the sex to plot ratio be?
1:3? Not that much sex.
Biggest turn-off when reading a sex scene?
Cock. If I had a penis, it would retreat back inside my body. =P! I hate when there is too much moaning. Let's be realistic here.
Biggest turn-on when reading a sex scene?
Hrmm...good writing. When the writing isn't lame/cheesy.
Biggest sex-scene pet-peeve?
I don't have many...
Which words do you hate to see in a sex scene?
Cock, vagina, etc. Lame words.
