Death in the Central Park

Jul 20, 2007 23:23

Yellow strips formed a rough circle around the area, cutting all but the initiated off from the activity going on within the confines of the cordon. As always, there were interested passers-by hanging around, but they hardly managed to get a glimpse of what was going on.

"So what do we have?" The lieutenant took a sip of his coffee. This was not the way he preferred starting his shift.

"Caucasian woman." The younger detective led his superior through the cordon, towards the huddled shape lying on the grass. "She was about twenty-five years old, blond hair, slim body, expensive clothing suggests an income above average."

"Cause of death?"

"We still need to wait for the autopsy but her body was seriously abused," the detective reached down to the body, and lifted the sheet covered the victim’s face. “Bite marks, mostly on her face and upper torso. Creepy."

“Don’t say it’s the full moon.” The lieutenant snorted.

"There’s no blood around," the detective replied thoughtfully. "Maybe she was already dead when the beast bit her."

“Or she was carried here, dead. Death marks?”

“That’s the other, sir.” The detective gestured at the body. “No death marks. As if all the blood left her body before death.”

“That’s not possible.” The lieutenant kicked at the grass, his shock visible on his face only through his tightly clenched lips. He looked at the forensics working a few meters away from them. “Use a thick comb, detective and pack everything that could help to find the bastard who did this.” He looked down at the victim again. “We know her name?”

“Yes. We found her purse.” The detective pulled out his notes. “Amy North. She lived in Manhattan.”
