Explore the real Donetsk - discover martian terrikon
Some people say that there is nothing to see in Donetsk, except beautiful Donbass Arena, park and boulevard.
Just leave the city center and go to the outskirt of our city to feel the real Donetsk. The big part of our city consists from settlements, which was growing around coal mines. Almost in each you can find our unique artificial mountains. We call them “terrikon” (in English “pit refuse heap: or “slag heap”).
There are more than 100 terrikons only in Donetsk plus hundreds and hundreds in Donbas region.
These hills consist from rock removed from underground during coal mining. As a local I have heard a lot stories that some people collapsed on slag heap and it’s radioactive. As I found info on Internet the radiation is in normal (however it depends on exact slag heap).

Most of slag heaps in Donetsk are located far away from city center.
So, let’s discover 65-th meter terrikon which is situated 10 km from our main square and discover the real Donetsk!
