Can't tell if any of these pictures are of Valdez, but I'd sure hope Jack doesn't get sent there!
Valdez was only about 45 miles from the epicenter of the earthquake and was one of the hardest hit: what was left of the town afterwards had to be destroyed and the town completely rebuilt a few miles away. Today it's a very pretty town in one of the most gorgeous natural settings you can imagine, but a decidedly grim place in 1964.

Yes, but could Ennis or Alaska manage to withstand Jack's complaining about the cold? LOL Then again, he never got so busted up in this AU that it would be a real physical hardship for him to deal with the cold. Maybe having his personal Ennis 'teddy bear' to keep him warm would make it different.
