There will always be a small part of Ennis that regrets not having any children of his own, but he's not sorry that he chose Jack over Alma. He may still have his reservations about their relationship, but I believe that he will overcome them and stay with Jack. I hope Ennis changes his mind and decides to study for he GED with Jack. It would be wonderful if they both could get the cerificate of achievement. Then neither one of them would feel as if he were a failure. It's amazing what a piece of paper can do for your self confidence. I can hardly wait for Jack's hitch to be up so our boys can be together properly.
I enjoyed this chapter. Even with its tense moments, I still had hope that it would end on a positive note. :) Debra
It's so like Jack to want that GED not just for himself but for the both of them. While Ennis is trying to treat Jack like some calf w/ his brand on him, he should stop and think how much he owes that blue-eyed GI! Loved it, Vicki. Well worth the wait!

Sorry it took so long for this update. Hopefully I can get back to a regular schedule now that this years round of family reunions are over. You're right. Ennis is having some problems adapting to all the changes, but he's sticking with it, sometimes even to his own surprise. :-)
Everytime you post it is like a precious gift. I can tell how much time and enery you put into every word. This chapter was amazing. Your characterizations, as always, were spot on.
