Yes Jack Twist is good enough for sure. I'm really happy that Ennis admitted so much to Jack and opened up to him even if it was in the confines of their own little bit of heaven in Ellie's bedroom. As for part one Jack, Jack why do you drink yourself to misery the bottle only brings out the hard facts of sadness it does not take them away. Ellie is a sweetheart and so are you for giving us this story. Joe

Yes, Joe, Jack is more than good enough. Unfortunately, right or wrong, our parents tend to have more of an influence on us than anyone else. Jack hasn't had Ennis around on a daily basis for a long time, and now that he does, well, on a weekly basis, Ennis' influence is liable to nudge it's way beyond Jack's parents. And you're so right about drinking making things worse than better, but that is a trap that so many people (myself included in my younger and stupider days) easily fall into. The momentary 'numbness' isn't worth enduring the pain when the alcohol wears off and there is the additional anxiety over having been so foolish to get drunk in the first place. In the OS Lureen said Jack drank a lot, which led me to believe that Jack was susceptible to trying to drown his sorrows when things got really rough. He can try, but Ennis isn't going to let him, and neither is Ellie. :-)

Thanks so much for the most gracious comments. They are very encouraging and greatly appreciated. I was hoping the reworking of the OS that I included here wouldn't be too corny. Might still be for some, but as long as someone else liked it, too, that's enough. :-)
It's been a while since you updated but this was WELL worth the weight. They finally had a meeting of the minds and hearts. They finally told each other what was going on inside. And how much Ennis has changed and how Jack Twist IS good anough for him. And that is all that should matter to Jack. NOT what OMT thinks.
Ain't love GRAND. I hope Jack can buy a jeep! more Ennis time
Sorry it's been so long since the last chapter. This one was very difficult for me. It really needed to be just right, because it is the cornerstone for so much of what is going to happen from now on. Ennis has changed a lot, and that is part of Jack's fears. Jack has been in unfamiliar territory since he left Wyoming, and then Ennis comes to him 'new and improved', which is good, but at the same time, bringing even more unfamiliarity into Jack's life. Even Ennis' love, which is the same, is different because it's no longer being pushed down behind Ennis' fears. Jack really needs something to be the same as it was before he was forced to leave Wyoming, which is why he misses hearing his dad's voice, even as he hates it when he does hear it.
And Jack will get a jeep, eventually, but not exactly in the way he has planned. :-)
Don't get too excited. It's nothing really big, just a little something that Jack hadn't considered and will need a little time to wrap his mind around. :-)
I really have missed your fabulous story and I feared for a while you had stopped writing it. I am so thoroughly happy you have updated again and what an excellent update has this been. The conversation between Jack and Ennis totally got to my heart, they really opened up to each other, talked about their deepest fears and exposed their innerlifes in their own special way of communication, so true and heartfelt with a silent understanding and compassion that leads to giving each other exactely what the other one needs, like this wonderful note Ennis gave to Jack.
I am just so glad that you continue writing this outstanding story, your work has always been one of my favourite in this fandom, thank you so much for sharing, best wishes to you
Please forgive the long delay in posting, and rest assured, I will not abandon this story. It will be finished, Claudia. I swear! :-)
One of the reasons it has taken so long to write this is because of the conversation between Ennis and Jack. I wanted it to be in character, for both the time period and the characters themselves. Not sure if I succeeded, but I gave it my best shot. No Dr. Phil's for the guys, and I don't believe either could just come right out and say what was bothering them. Pride and all, and the way boys were raised at that time to believe that real men didn't talk about their feelings.
Thanks for patiently waiting for me, and hopefully the rest of the story won't be as difficult to write as this chapter was. That way I can get back to more regular schedule of posting. :-)
Jack has the words in his hands now, from Ennis's own hand. "Jack Twist IS good enough." I don't think anyone could love Jack more than Ennis loves him. And Ennis is trying to prove his love in the best way he can. I hope Jack can start to hear Ennis's loving voice in his head now instead of his daddy's hateful voice.
Wonderful chapter. I love the intimacy between Jack and Ennis, and they way they comfort each other during the low parts of their conversaiton. I'm looking forward to your next chapter. I am so hooked on this story! : ) Debra
Ennis did the best he could, and it was not in vain. Until Jack can put Ennis' voice to his thoughts, he can at least read the words that Ennis would be saying to him. I'm glad you liked the intimacy. I've always thought that was what OS Jack wanted most from Ennis. The sex was great and all that, but it was the regular companionship they shared up on BBM that I think Jack missed more than anything during those times between fishing trips, and why the dozy embrace was so prominent in his mind years later. That's what I wanted to give them in this story. Not just more frequent physical intimacies, but the more lasting non-sexual ones, too. :-)

Wonderful reworking of the trailhead dialogue into something so positive.
