I also really liked Rainbow's book Attachments, which is not YA, but also not horribly bleak and depressing like some books for grown ups. (She's also a super cool person. I have to try really hard not to come off as a scary creeper of a fangirl on Twitter, but I just adore her so much. She's so freaking nice.)
Justina Chen's books are great. I read Return to Me a few months ago for Teen Lit Rocks, and I really enjoyed it. :)

I was really sucked in to the part where Eleanor is trying to get Park to see the sexism in the comics. The passive powers, the outfits, etc. I had an almost identical convo with my ex. I was trying to get him to see the sexism in the whole "boob window" of the costumes, the always flowing hair, that almost all of their powers were self-defensive rather than attack oriented. It was like I was trying to destroy his youth!!
