What's more is, I do believe that the 40% of new york that did NOT vote for Kerry is all upper state. New York City itself - aka Ground Zero - is pretty hefty pro-Kerry.
I think you pretty much summed up the entire democratic party's stance in your conclusion. I plucked this from a friend:
I think those of us who oppose Bush, who don't believe he and his posse represent our interests, need to stand up for what we want and demand change. And this would be my message even if Kerry won, because there's no guarantee he would be the change we desire. This is a bitterly divided nation and things are only going to go downhill from here. More than ever, this is not the time to be complacent.
Yeah, it's really amazing how the people who were most affected by 9/11 disagree with Bush's war on Iraq. If the 50 states were people, and that one guy named New York was able to say, "hey guys, I got stabbed, but not by Saddam, let's go after that Bin Laden guy cause he was the one who did this to me," I wonder if it would make a difference. That is to say, because essentially, on a larger scale, millions of people who do not understand the situation got spoonfed the supposed "facts" by the government through the media. But if it were a group of 50 some odd people who were close to each other, they would plainly see what had happened.
I was telling my friend the other day, this seems like science fiction and yet stuff like this truly exists in our world. Craziness I tell ya.
there is a group of 9/11 survivors for peace. but these small pockets of resistance gets swallowed up by the big block of red we saw last night.
hopefully reuniting the country (and healing US-world relationships) will be at the top of bush's list. we have to be vigilant of his actions for the next four years and protest if we have to.
i'd prefer to stay and be proud to be american, but if i can no longer sleep at night, i'm leaving.
