Yes, I have, but mostly on components that were either almost brand new and didn't work out of the box, or ones that were 5 or 6 years old.
I know there's a graph out there of a distribution curve of age of hardware components versus failure probability. It's really high at first, then drastically and quickly dips, then slowly rises with age. 10 months is probably one of the least likely times to see a failure. But again, everything is a crap shoot, basically.
Part of my confidence in Apple as a company, and whether I might consider buying one myself when the VAIO goes, will be how well and smoothly, and with how little added expense, they handle this. So far the phone support seemed pretty good.
