The climate here is wacky. Some winters we get smothered in snowfall, others, not much at all. I would imagine whether we outdo you is a winter-by-winter thing. Most winters will hit 70 degrees at some point, though, too.
Perhaps the reason the jokes aren't appealing is when you realize the politics themselves are the joke? Most pundits alive mention the great benefits of their position, but always fail to mention the drawbacks. There might be a few that break this mold, and I'm thinking I might start reading them.
I've seen mixed results with rebates. Some of them have been relatively painless, others, I've had to beat into submission over the paltry sum of a yuppie food stamp.

One professional blog that I've read occasionally as pointed to by some right-of-me friends, and she's pretty certainly to the right-of-me on some issues, but often times seems to ponder the interesting trade-offs in politics is Megan McArdle:
At some point I'll have to see if I can take some more photos of the aspens changing around here, or dig up some older ones. Somehow I think the ash tree in the back yard that's changing wouldn't have the same aesthetic impact.
Well, shit. Some evil force was at work during the posting process.
What I wrote was "Did you know that during the RNA, Cindy McCain wore an outfit worth $312,000 including jewelry the night she appeared with Laura Bush? I think she should have put that outfit on eBay and given the proceeds to AA."
How the fuck do you manage to get a wardrobe worth $312K? I could wear our goddamn house and not have that much bling. Out-of-touch my ass, these people live in a different galaxy.
I hate expensive clothes. Give me a wardrobe from Target and a bit of understated jewelery.

Sadly, our reptilian contingent here is somewhat limited.
