Internal Server Error

I just had to log the following support ticket with our hosting provider for one of the sites I'm working on. It's the only possible explanation for the totally freaky behaviour that had been sending me nearly insane.

Sounds like you might have a web application firewall placed in front of your environment. Are you doing CC transactions at all on the site? That's usually when you get that type of device in front of your web servers.

Turned out to be exactly what I thought it was. An apache module called "mod_security" which was filtering for malicious sql statements.
