monkey antagonism

In the evening Mexican neighbors launch fireworks over the intersection. I'm not sure where they come from, the roof of the dentist's office, maybe, or the alley behind it. Sitting in the wing chair reading, I hear the launch-thud and turn in time to see two explode in quick succession. They are close enough that I can see the ash falling.

These photos are great, I need to actually do fun things like this to take photos of once I get my nice shiny dslr soon. Sitting on tumblr/reading doesn't really make for nice compositions.

I've had this camera (my first slr, though I borrowed film slrs years ago) a little over a year and I hadn't been using it as much lately, partly due to the big heavy kit lens and partly from a lack of novel/interesting subjects. I bought a 24mm prime lens and have been using it lots more now. Also I'm less concerned about novelty. I sort of realized that in the long haul (unless you can afford to travel all the time), photography is a repetitive activity. Over time your technique changes and you get better (or at least different) results from the same subjects. Also, reading Camera Lucida got me thinking about it more.
