Have you ever been to a historical location where you feel how old the place and the awe that such a thing has survived for so long? That's what I would feel today. The Guishan Han Dynasty Tomb is by far the best place I have ever been to in China in regards to history ( Read more... )

Which period of ancient Chinese history do you find particularly interesting?

Pretty much Song to Ming. I like the era where new cultural and philsophical influences (specifically those of Buddhism) begin taking hold. So I guess especially the Song and Tang.

Part of my Zen lecture involved the spread of Buddhism in China. It's an interesting time. I have been looking more at the Zhou and Qin however. Good philosophical period.

Agreed, especially with the Qin. That was the rise of Legalism in China pretty much...what with the burning of literature and all that jazz by the Qin Emperor。
