well, that's that. after canvassing and staying up until 3 and waking up to no more answers and finding out by constantly refreshing news pages about the concession, after getting depressed and then angry and then angrier until I kicked the wall in the english department and burst into tears, and came back and watched the concession speech... I don ( Read more... )

1. that's exactly my point. it's not really that I forget, but it's just so hard for me to understand that so many other people (ie 55 billion people or so) think so incredibly differently than I do. it's feeling so strongly about these things and being astounded that other people can feel so strongly in the opposite direction. I doubt that living somewhere else would change that, it would just scare me even more.

in regards to poor people-- it's a matter of making it clear that the democratic party, for the most part, is on their side and the republicans, for the most part, are not. the democratic party is seen as a northeast liberal elitist institution, and there's so much about it (and so much that it does) that isn't at all. it's all about image, people.

yeah. the division is pretty insane. but i think a large part of it is because the poor people don't know we're on their side. i dunno. i want things to change, but not enough for me to do anything about it so i should just stfu :-P

The sad this is that the voting group the decided this election were homophobes.

The larger turn-out was largely comprised of people who came to vote on the gay-marraige bans around the country, all of whom also voted for Bush because he had come out against gay marraige a while ago.

I wouldn't be suprised if Ohio, which had the "no extra gay rights" amendment was decided by these same people.

I'm sure that it was. especially in rural/southern ohio.

I can't believe it passed in oregon, though. I always forget (and kick myself for forgetting) that oregon is larger than portland, california is larger than santa monica, pennsylvania is larger than swarthmore, new york state is larger than new york city. etc.

I was going to lj-cut this but I don't think that works in comments. my dad sent it to me. sorry it's so long, but it seemed like the right thing for this conversation. it has a little bit of that aforementioned elitism in it, but not enough to stop me from sharing it. besides, my roommate really believes that on some things (ie gay marriage, the right to choose) We are objectively right and They are just plain wrong. so even if can't say it and really believe it, I'm going to pretend that I'm her for a second and just post away ( ... )
