seshat and I successfully made it to my company's holiday party on Friday. There are pictures but the formal one I bought scans in like crap or I'd link it now. I'm not sure if the picture is just that scratched up or if my scanner is. I'll poke around at work and see if I can find the original. My senior manager also took a picture of us. I'll see if I can get a copy of that as well.
She said she had a good time but I feel like I was a bad host. We did even less than I normally do when I go alone. Part of it was by the time we arrived all the tables were taken and it was standing room tables only. On the plus side, we found a table with my senior manager, to whom I'd wanted to introduce her since they'd worked together in previous professional lives. That worked out quite well and she got to be sociable with people. But all the standing in heels dissuaded her from dancing, in which she had expressed interest, and she was tired from a long week so we spent most of the night sitting (once a table near us finally cleared) and watching people play Guitar Hero. I saw most of the people I'd wanted to see, missed a number of others and the directors I wanted to greet didn't seem to have been there at all.
Yesterday the clouds opened up and dropped at least an inch of rain on LA throughout the day. This was problematic since we were out driving in it most of the day. We drove up to Manhattan Beach to have brunch with friends of hers and then drove out to Fullerton to meet some local WoW guildies of ours. Brunch was neat. The meeting failed. Only one person had RSVPed, anyway, and they texted
seshat that they had been in a minor car accident on the way there and were just going home. We stuck around a polite amount of time just in case anyone else showed before bailing, ourselves. Then it was just a quiet evening around the house.
She's at the airport now and will be heading home to a pretty full family evening. Hopefully, the sun out now doesn't blind the gate people into canceling her flight for weather again.
