Too much time on their hands?

Having apparently solved all the more pressing issues in California, the State legislators are going after those evil people who own their own sonogram machines:

I know it's an old post, I just saw it.

Your last statement is a bit naive. Yes, they're concerned enough not to want to harm the patients. Are they competent enough, though? Can't you see Tom Cruise using the ultrasound machine as a 24-hour baby monitor with Katie strapped in except during press visits?

At that point you have far bigger problems than overuse of a sonogram machine. A nutbar is going to be a nutbar, no matter what. If they're a hazard to society you act to remove them as a hazard. If they are only a hazard to themselves and consenting others you shouldn't. It is arguable that the baby isn't consenting, on the other hand how different is it in effect from abortion? And in addition, it appears that it isn't actually a problem...no one has died or been hurt yet by a private sonogram machine. Maybe no one ever will. Maybe all that is needed is mandatory training for non-medical personnel.

The State government shouldn't piddle around with laws that affect 1 in 15 million people, especially when there are far bigger problems at hand. It was a grandstanding move, and I deplore it.
