No pain, no gain, eh? :D At least you look dazzling: mental happiness for near inability to walk is more than worth it, methinks.
This all takes me back to my younger years; limping off the school bus and having to phone my mother to drive a dew hundred yards to pick me up because shoes had created blisters the size of goodness-knows-what on my feet. I needed two days off school before I could walk again! But ahhh.. those were a lovely pair of shoes in the end. *kisses the memory of them*
I didn't think I'd ever find a pair of boots that fit my calves, but I've learned a few secrets over the years:
- LEATHER is my best friend. That synthetic shite just looks horribly bad despite it's claim that it stretches. Nothing stretches and ages like leather. - heat opens the leather's pores and thus makes it shapeable - lace-up boots are calf friendlier
I love boots. They look amazing and they keep your legs warmer than nylons and socks. :)
Ooh, am taking those tips to heart missy. I'm in the midst of trying to find boots myself (I have too many dashing skirts and not the footware to accompany them! Woe is me!) and am also having a tough time with it all.
I shall definitely be on the look out for a nice lace-up leather pair now. Yes sirree!
How hard is it to get boots stretched, by the by? I had a gorgeous pair that was so close in the calves, but not enough to make them work properly. How much give is there, usually, and where does one go to get these things stretched (or can you do it yourself)? I just ordered a pair or two from Nordstroms online. God, I need boots desperately, but the calves are always, always a problem. I wish Stuart Wietzman a slow, painful death for assuming that most of his clients have calves that are twelve inches in circumfrence. I'd happily fork over the 600 USD, but my legs are not that thin.
For reference: The largest part of my calf is about 2/3 inches below my knee. If I can get the boot up my leg, and I"m having difficulty around 2" from the top of the boot (the largest part), there's no doubt that with time they'll stretch. In my experience, if I can get the boot zipped within 3 inches from the top of the boot, I think the boot can be easily mechanically stretched to fit. There will be a breaking in period, but that's always a given with 100% leather boots

Tis a shame you need to spend a fistful of cash in the search of boots that accomodate non-twiggy-calves. !
