The urgent care centers I've been to in the Bay Area are Alta Bates Summit in Oakland and the Palo Alto Medical Foundation in Palo Alto, both still in business I believe. Your guess is as good as mine about the primacy care physician, though.

Yah, urgent care still takes the load off ERs. Hospitals love ERs- its where their long-term inpatients come from- but they want fewer people who could walk in and will walk out once their problem is seen to. So, urgent care is the catchbasket.

thanks for the link, and I will gladly perform my political act whenever. I got into a loud (and agreeable all-around) discussion at the hippie grocery today about abortion rights and how a very useful flea repellent (pennyroyal oil- ask me about my mangy, stinky, flea-bitten mongrel housemate who invited herself in through the hole in the wall where the bathroom fell off and refuses to sleep anywhere but my bed) was taken off the market because it is both an abortifacient and lethal at surprisingly small dosages. So people who couldn't get abortions any other way were drinking the stuff (and of course, not telling anyone) and dying. So...
