Job, or odd scam you decide

Dec 30, 2009 18:55

While meandering through the various jobs sites I cam across the following job and thought why not apply, no harm in doing so though its not the exact job I applied for as that seems to have been maxed out and replaced with this one.

Then today I get the following email from albioncomputer@ymail.com

Dear Michael,
Thank you for your application for the position of Data Entry Clerks / Customer Service Operators, 18566982 as posted on reed.co.uk. I would like to speak with you to discuss this vacancy in more detail.

Please contact me on 0844 8227014(LOCAL CALL RATE) & QUOTE "ASDEC WE" as soon as possible.

Albion Computer Services.

Not being familiar with 0844 numbers I looked them up via the powers of the internet, it appears that they are variable rate numbers charging between 1/2p and 5p a minute with a portion of that being claimed by whoever you are calling on that number. Also while I was at it I looked into this Albion Computer Services, who apparently only exist in job advertisements with similar job adverts being up for all the major British cities on the job sites with the only Albion Computer Services I can find being www.albioncomputers.co.uk/ a small firm based in the West End of London who I can't quite see as being expanding all over the country.

My guess is that someone is attempting some kind of money making scheme from having all the people who have applied for these jobs calling that 0844 number, though how many will need to call it for them to cover the setup costs I have no idea.

This may well be a big flight of fancy and they are just using that number for whatever reasons, but what do you the people of the internets think?
