Here are some general things I like:
(by no means an obligation or a checklist)
I like humor.
I love plots.
I'm a sucker for Wild West or Film Noir AUs. Futuristic dystopias are also kind of neat. Steampunk is gorgeous.
I love folklore and working off of mythologies and urban legends.
I love examining the relationships between people (though I'm not generally a fan of romance or porn, except where explicitly noted)
I like math and science, especially when taken to the brink of implausibility
I have a weakness for puns.
I like politicking and murder mysteries and conspiracies and complicated plots, but these are hard and would be totally beyond the call of duty.
Did I mention I like humor? Because a touch of humor in any story is awesome, even if it's a tragedy.
I like a little grain of discomfort/unease mixed into otherwise pleasant stories.
I like a strong sense of setting or culture
I like a sense of impending disaster.
I like it when an author's love for the characters and story really shows.
Here are some things I'm not really into:
Porn and stories that are all about romance. I'm a genfan, what can I say? This isn't an absolute, but I'd like to keep the romance near the same sort of level it is in canon, and if there are canon couples, I prefer that they stay together.
Characters being unpleasant to each other all of the time (fine in small amounts and fine if it's in character, but too much of it starts to get me down)
Character bashing. Believe it or not, there are very few characters in these series that I don't like. (And if you don't like a character, it's okay for you to not write them! Seriously, I understand! Do what you love, not what you hate!)
Introspective stories that don't have things happening. I like things to happen. They don't have to be big things, just. Something beyond just thinking.
Ink (2009)
available for free on
hulu if you're in the US. It's a movie, so it's easy to learn the canon if you're interested in writing this.
Jacob the Pathfinder
I love Jacob and all his goofy seriousness. He plays really well off of Allel, so feel free to put her in as well. Things I'm interested in are things that involve his powers and how they affect how they see the world, what his life was like before he became a pathfinder or when he was first getting used to the powers, or perhaps some fun casefic where he goes off on a mission to save someone/annoy many people. Worldbuilding is always a plus, especially in one as fascinating as this.
Gunnerkrigg Court
Webcomic available for free
here and also in hardcover, which is worth it since it's so gorgeous. The archive is pretty big, so it might take you a day to go through it.
Jack Hyland
I put Jack as my character because he always gets a big reaction out of me, but I adore pretty much the entire cast, so let me officially say every character is fair game for you to write. In particular, Andrew and Parley are adorable together (and also separately), I'm interested in Reynardine and Surma's relationship during her days in the court, I can't wait for Jack to ask Zimmy to a dance, the people from Jeanne's era are mysterious and intriguing, and Boxbot and City Face are always, ALWAYS welcome. So, really, have at it!
CyberSix
Canadian cartoon, 13 eps, available in highly illegal downloads from a friend
here, download it and make a note to buy it when it's available on dvd?
CyberSix - Character
This was a show with so many interesting ideas, I'd like to see you expand on some of them. I really like her relationship with Lucas, both as Adrian and as CyberSix. The gender stuff is very interesting to me, so if that's something you want to go with, that's great. I'm also interested in Cybersix's childhood or her relationship with Data7, both in the past and the present, and her dependence on Sustenance. I'm not familiar with the comics, so you could use or discard that canon however you like.
Prince of Persia (Video Game 2008)
Videogame for the PS3. It's a pretty quick game relatively speaking and it's super fun and super pretty, so if you're into games, definitely check it out.
The Prince (Prince of Persia)
Elika (Prince of Persia)
I love how these two interact, banter, and challenge each other, either through discussions of philosophy or games of I Spy. I like the ways they work together as partners, and the ways they don't completely understand the other. I'm up for anything, so long as it involves these two.
