Why in the fuck is the "new year" celebrated a week and a half after the mid-winter Solstice?  On one half of the planet (the half that originally came up with this retarded calendar) it's still as cold as a witch's tit in a brass brassiere.  Wouldn't it make more sense to celebrate new beginnings in say... springtime?

Nowruz is in the Spring, as is the New Year of a vast number of other Eastern civilisations.

That's what I mean. That makes some kind of sense, even if it is all caught up in bowing down to an Eastern version of Santa Claus' Uncle.

Our, Western Civ's, problem is that we have inherited so much moldy bullshit from Rome. The bullshit inherited by Eastern Civ's ain't usually so ridiculously complicated by centuries of bureaucratic politics and religion. Certainly, they have their own problems, but ours seem to all point back to Rome: the Empire and later the Church it gave birth to.
