After quietly lurking in the dark shadows of a dark dank alleyway between classes, I came upon a trio of teenagers. Perhaps they were simply skipping off...no, this group of three, consisting of two female characters and one male, are actually out of school. The male creature has actually graduated (after 6 years of schooling), the female who has her back turned to me belongs to a different school than my own, and finally, the other female has been refused reentry back into the education system. Quite the overachievers and I am not being sarcastic. They appeared to be a close group of friends, with them sitting in an imperfect triangular formation turned towards each other, yet for the most part, they appeared expressionless with a smile and a small laugh here and there. Although each of them we’re slightly curled up into themselves, one would blame the chilly weather. No other people tried to join their conversation for they claim to be social outcasts. Please refer to the illustration below.
To the unskilled observer, the lack of movement, body language and expression would translate into nothing. As if this group of melancholy people we’re useless, worthless, and unable to even hold a conversation. However, the keen observer, such as myself, knows what you see is not always what you get. I have dug deeper into their clever plot to mask their true intentions, so far as to almost tap into their minds! From watching them carefully, you could tell they were discussing matters of life. Not in the sense of “where will I be in 10 years and what will I be doing?” but more along the lines of “I probably shouldn’t be doing all these drugs and I’m just wasting away but loving it” This could be figured out so easily for they ARE hanging out and conversing in a fairly secluded alleyway. Much like their expression, their emotional state seemed to be at a point between emotionless to content. None of the three we’re yelling at all so they were clearly not angry, but there also wasn’t a lot of cheerful laughing either. It also looked like the three of them got along so well that they were able to function as a single being. In most cases, this is only achieved when it is clear that each person is equal and connected on a personal level.
Although I believe in the communication model I have received, I must say that this case is much different in a sense that these people were linked in an inexplicable manner. Perhaps they have been friends for so long that the whole physical aspect in communication was not totally necessary for them to converse successfully, or there is just a natural connection between each party.
