Do people generally dislike university?

Because IMO, this feels pretty damn shitty. I'm trying to figure out if that's a normal feeling or if it's because I'm in the wrong field or if it's because I'm a melodramatic whore.

Is it the school part you're not liking, or the social/lifestyle part?

I think if you don't like the school part, it's worth taking a look at your field, and also at your general level of academic interest...

If it's the social/lifestyle part...maybe take a look at the school you're at? The town/city it's in? The circle of friends you've found?

I don't think there really is one standard University Experience to compare to.

I'm not completely sure, I think it may be the school part. But I just figured a lot of people hate writing papers and doing hours of reading, so it's probably normal to feel frustrated a lot.
And I think it may also be that I'm incredibly intimidated by what may be expected of me later on. It's a very difficult, demanding field (film) and I'm starting to feel like I wouldn't be able to handle a program where I'm constantly under so much pressure to produce something stunning and creative, while also worrying about a budget, time constraints, working with a team... etc. The more I think about it, the more I feel like I'm really not cut out for it.

Does you school have academic counselors, or anything? Or could you talk to a prof and see whether your fears are realistic?

I hate to see people give up on things that they want, but on the other hand it's probably a good idea to always be assessing new information, and deciding whether you still want what you thought you wanted...

Don't you sometimes wish you lived in a simpler age, where you had less freedom and fewer choices? I mean, it's great to have all these options, but damn! - not always straightforward!

That is a really great idea, I should definitely look into seeing an academic counselor or something of the sort. Or possibly e-mailing an upper year student. Thanks for the idea!

Yeah, I totally agree. It's always depressing when you hear about an artist or actor that gives up on their dreams and you think about the wasted potential. Thoughout the year I have to really assess the situation and make sure I won't be wasting potential if I quit. :\

I was just thinking that the other day! I was like "Ahh, I wish I could just have a run-of-the-mill repetitive day job, this stuff is too complicated." OH LIFE, why are you so confusing?
