If I read another slash fic where Cisdude A and Cisdude B have been sexually intimate in someway that doesn't include anal (ie frottage, oral, handjobs), but because they haven't made with the assfucking yet, say they haven't 'really/actually/technically' had sex, I will start smacking people with my copy of 'The Joy of Lesbian Sex ( Read more... )

It's amazing the amount of things aren't really sex! Presumably these fic writers would extend this logic to their partners "not really" cheating!

The only time I'm happy with this is if we interpret canon Luke and Reid never having had sex as never having had anal sex, because I want to at least pretend that they did SOMETHING other than kiss before the train that didn't happen. But otherwise, I agree.

I don't disagree with you, but sometimes making that clear isn't easy. Sometimes it is in character for both of them to share such a flawed POV and then who's going to point it out? I mean, with Reid/Luke, you could be your ass that Reid OR Luke would set the other straight if they made a comment like that. But there are some couples that would never correct each other. Luke/Noah come to mind. Their dynamic wouldn't have worked that way imo.

So, to me it just needs to be in character and believable.

I agree, in-character and believable is the key; I think in the situation you're talking about where both characters would have that flawed pov, there would be other hints in the story letting us -know- that particular weakness of the characters', so I'd probably be okay with it. Assuming the author themselves knows the pov is flawed. What gets me is when I read fic where the author pretty clearly -doesn't- realize the problem.
