So I'm a hunt now to confirm solid proof that season 6 really exists.  My results I shall share here, but, dude, google is awesome, haven't you figured that out by now?

Sorry I took so long. I honestly kept forgetting or remembering at inopportune times. Yeah. I basically found nothing. He couldn't remember where he heard it and when I searched, all I could find is that the main writer might bail and that Padelecki might bail after 6 if he doesn't like the writing. Other than that, it's all gung ho.

The spn wiki had a buncha info on it too. I just found that the other night. New fave ever spot!! It explained a few things so that the finale wasn't such a 'WTF' too, which was nice. The fandom is huge and resourceful and bored as heeeelllll I've noticed, so they put out lotsa really cool stuff online...
