I've got a picture that I want to use and I want to have some words fade in and out on it - and I've really got no skills in that way - is that difficult to do?

Depends. I am using Paint Shop Pro, which comes with Animazion Shop. It's really easy with that. You enter one picture blank and one with the text, then you let the program do the fade-over.
You'll need an Animation Program, that's for sure. You can download a trial here, if you want to:

Or you can send me the picture and tell me what to write, and I'll do that for you. But from your post I gather you want to try on your own, right? ;-)

Oh no, sure, that's easy to do :)

In that case, I need the picture, an indication of what area you want in the icon (if it needs to be cropped), as well as where you want the text/What sort of text you want (like curly, straight, big, small)... :)
