I haven't updated my journal for a year now, wow! But now that I'm back I needed to talk about how I've been feeling since yesterday when I heard about Robin Williams death. I agree completely. I was so upset by the coward comments (and our director declaring to a colleague that "creative people must be chemically imbalanced" yesterday) that I wrote a blog post about how actually, the cowardly thing is to have that much off-the-wall talent and decide that you'll wear the pinstripe suit and be a banker rather than being yourself, because being Robin Williams in our culture is BLOODY HARD. Everywhere you turn there are people who are only too eager to tell you you need to be something else. Saying no to that is what takes immense courage. Idiots.

I have been affected by this news in ways I never could have predicted and still don't understand.

Hey Alto! I'm so sorry I didn't reply to your comment sooner. I haven't been on here since I posted about Robin Williams because I've been so busy. Yes, it's a shame that people say cruel and insensitive comments about someone who suffers from depression and mental illness. Where's the compassion? I just don't understand it. Hopefully people will understand that a person who suffers from depression can be so overwhelmed that they can feel suicidal. It doesn't mean they're a coward. Some think about it but don't do it and then some actually do it and it's just so sad.
