My grandmother always made rosettes, which are so light and delicious. You need a special iron for those, too.

Sierra's grandmother usually makes lebkuchen, which are yummy, too.

My favorite, though, are Russian tea cakes.

The rosettes, are they fried? Pizzelles are cooked like waffles, in that type of iron. The rosettes look so pretty and delicious!
I don't think I've ever had lebkuchen...but if it's gingerbread it's got to be good!

Yea, rosettes are deep fried. You stick the iron into the batter and then quickly into the hot oil and they eventually come off in the oil and cook a bit longer. They take hardly any time at all to make. Then you sprinkle powdered sugar on them. They're so pretty and there are lots of different designs; they always reminded me of snowflakes.

Lebkuchen is pretty much iced gingerbread. It's awesome.

cardamom butter cookies. My friend Sarah turned me on to them a few years ago and now we have to make them for Yule or it's just not right!

Oh, would you share the recipe? I don't know if I can try them this year, but I'd love to consider it.

You know, I've never been a big cookie person and we never had them in the house over the holidays unless someone gave them to us as a gift. Chris loves chocolate covered pretzels, though, so I guess those are what remind me of the holidays now.

Do you make your own chocolate covered pretzels? I did that one year, chocolate and white chocolate. They didn't last to give away!
