still good after 15 years

Because sometimes nostalgia punches you in the back of the head and doesn't stop until you do something about it, I bought Creatures: The Albian Years and have been dicking around in Creatures 1.

It's nice to know that sometimes, the nostalgia isn't lying to you: it really was that good. My current little crop of norns is dumb as a bunch of rocks (I just had to go yell at one particular dipshit because he was starving to death while completely surrounded by food) but entirely charming, nevertheless.

Look, I warned you there were going to be photos.

Emma's one of my two hatchery starters. Of all the current population, she may not be the dumbest, but she's definitely the reigning champion of "stare at a piece of food for minutes on end while complaining about how hungry you are". It's actually kind of unusual. Despite attention issues, she's somehow carried on pretty well and has laid three eggs so far. (I've only hatched two at present. Egg number three is going in the incubator soon - and will be closely observed, for reasons I'll go into shortly.)

Sid, the standard Forest Norn from the Life Kit. He's pretty low-key - I haven't noticed a strong personality from him yet. He is, however, the healthiest norn in Albia. He's usually the one with the highest life force out of all of them. He's only fathered one egg thus far, with Emma - that's the one that's going to be hatched soon for science.

Verthandi is probably my favorite at the moment, because I am blatantly biased towards Purple Mountain Norns, shut up. The female PMN comes with the name Sandy, but I renamed her because I'm awesome and pretentious like that. I think she's the one who does the most traveling out of everyone, and she's reasonably good at taking care of herself. Of the three eggs I currently have waiting to be hatched, two of them are hers. By whom, I have no idea. It is an exciting mystery!

My final starter, Verrus, pictured here with his and Emma's daughter. He is presently the reigning patriarch. Every kid in Albia right now is his. I literally had to shut Emma and Sid up in a room together to get her knocked up by somebody not Verrus. I don't know if it's that Verrus is more sociable (and thus with the girls more often), more sexually aggressive, or just lucky, but verily he hath sown his wild goddamn oats.

Fili, the first natural birth! Also the weirdest fucking mutant. I was pretty excited about her when she first hatched because she showed really good instincts - feeding herself before I could even teach her the words, sleeping, generally seeing to her needs. Where it got weird was when, an hour after her hatching, I realized... hey, why is she still tiny and crawling? Norns reach adulthood after an hour - she should have already passed through childhood and puberty. For a moment I was afraid she was going to be a baby forever, but fortunately she recently aged to childhood. At the time of writing, she's two hours old and still a child. THIS IS KIND OF WEIRD.

Fili's brother Pharaoh. He seems to have a less severe version of his sister's mutation - he grew to childhood normally, but he seems to be stuck there. Frankly, I should've noticed something was up when he grew before Fili did. He's currently an hour old, and he and Fili are the same size. KIND OF WEIRD.

And here's Ragnar. He is gorgeous, with possibly the handsomest combination I've ever seen on a norn. He's also the dipshit who was starving in a room full of food. I hope he passes on his looks, and not his intelligence.

So, yeah. Seven norns in Albia, most doing reasonably well for being, well, norns. The incubator's still open, so I'm going to be plunking Sid and Emma's egg in next - I'm going to see if the baby ages normally, or if Emma's branch of the family tree is going to have to be gently pruned off because dear god, a world full of eternal norn children.

God, I missed this game. :D

Egg number three has been hatched. Adorable little girl, with her daddy's face and her mommy's everything else. Mutation immediately obvious when she didn't move... or talk... or respond to her name being called... Yeeeaaah I think I'm gonna be culling Emma's line. Fili and Pharaoh might be reimported later, possibly in a new world of their own, but there's not much to be done for little Deirdre. :( And after three mutated children, I'm thinking I don't want to take chances with any more of Emma's babies.
