Emma Goldman 1927

I meant to post this yesterday in honor of memorial day, but was busy with other things.

The powers that have for centuries been engaged in enslaving the masses have made a thorough study of their psychology. They know that the people at large are like children whose despair, sorrow, and tears can be turned into joy with a little toy. And the more ( Read more... )

Memorial Day is always an odd time for me, because I am totally for this war but I hate the troops.

Some people think this might be a bit hypocritical, but hey, I'm for those fuckers to be sent out in dangerous situations without proper armor in dangerous situations, and then come home (if they do come home) to poor medical treatment and untreated mental illnesses. I really don't understand the people who are for this war AND the troops, those are thr real hypocrites...

I can't decide if I'm more upset at people who Rumsfeldize this war or those who fetishize World War II and the "Greatest Generation." The former are more immediately aggravating but the latter have had a more negative long term impact on our already fucked up national psyche.

Maybe the most offensive show I've ever seen was an episode of "King of the Hill" where the grandfather and his World War II buddies had to join up with the Vietnam veterans, who were all crazy, wimpy, post-traumatic syndrome suffering non-men who go nuts... Okay, only World War II veterans count. Great.

Seriously, I never understood how the people who supported a violent, deadly, entirely unnecessary and unprovoked war, defended politicians who sent them out with poor equipment, no medical support, especially no adequate mental healthcare, and then re-deploy and re-deploy these same troops to the same fucking areas, are the ones supporting the troops.

May I kindly ask Americans never to start supporting writers. We basically are already suffering from mental illness and addiction and prone to untimely deaths. We're set!
