Mon, Ganen, Garth, J’brel, and (Sekar) / [XP: 6]

Preston was out of town, Ruth arrived late due to work, and Bevin’s Krav classes ran so late that we’d pretty much wrapped up by the time she got home. Deb left a little early but didn’t miss much.

Month 4; Day 08 (Continued)

With Morrigan and Sekar still gone and Roger deciding not to repeat the mistake of leaving the ship unattended, the other four PC’s headed out to search for Zatt and Tanner. Mon proposed just abandoning them for around 24 hours, but he was outvoted.

In less than an hour, Garth came across a couple who remembered having encountered a young man in the company of a ‘green, octopus-headed thing’. Apparently the boys had made inquiry about a highly-visible building several blocks away; a five-or-so-story-tall structure with a very bright array of lights emanating from its roof (which the couple indicated was in fact a closed-down concert stadium).

After thanking the couple for their time, Garth was just about to radio the other PC’s when he saw something across the road which made him completely forget why he was there. It was an old Gale-11 airspeeder; the product of a brief foray made by Bespin Motors into the civilian transportation business. Only a fairly small number had been produced, and the line had been discontinued around a decade before the Clone Wars began. Garth had desperately wanted one for as long as he could remember.

This particular one (which was sitting in a used speeder lot) had clearly suffered from years of abuse and neglect, and it had a hand-written sign on its cracked windshield reading ‘400 credits - AS IS!’ But love is blind, even when it comes to airspeeders; and Garth already had the credits in his hand when he managed to catch the lot owner as he was locking up for the evening.

The interior was just as dilapidated as the exterior; and it tilted uncomfortably to the side and made a god-awful screeching noise as Garth carefully piloted it back towards the parking deck. Its lift engines wouldn’t take it above around ten feet, and he wound up leaving a fair bit of paint on the duracrete walls of the spiral ramp leading up to the top deck. As he brought it up the cargo lift into the main hold, the children just stared in stunned silence and said nothing.

After the new love of his life was secured, Garth finally contacted the other PC’s; and he and they made their way towards the stadium. Sure enough; they found Tanner and Zatt on the front steps of the stadium along with two men who appeared to be unconscious. Both of the men were dressed in preposterously loud purple outfits and wearing enormous and ridiculous-looking metal boot where were adorned with purple glitter. Zatt was keeping an eye on the street; Tanner appeared to be going through the pockets of one of the unconscious men.

According to the boys, they’d stopped the two men from mugging an elderly passer-by. Skipping the lecture on running away from the ship for random vigilante activity, the PC’s insisted that Tanner refrain from robbing the men. Stubborn as always, Tanner started in on some spiel about how he deserved compensation; but J’brel brought the conversation to a swift close as she drew, extended, and ignited some sort of collapsible lightsaber pike with a purple blade!

Before anyone could say anything, the front doors to the stadium burst open and at least half a dozen men (possibly more) wearing the same appalling outfits and boots began to exit. J’brel and Mon were content to let the two pipsqueaks handle them by themselves, but Ganen wanted this entire annoying incident to end rather than escalate. “Get back into your goofy little clubhouse!”, he snarled as he brandished his carbine, “or I’ll reduce every one of you to glittery stains!”

The combined sight of the Mandalore and the dark-cloaked woman with the lightsaber pike were sufficient to prompt the flamboyant men to let bygones be bygones; though they asked to be allowed to bring their two unconscious fellows inside, and the PC’s permitted them. The PC’s then headed straight back to the Seventh Moon.

The incident was actually quickly forgotten when the PC’s took in the sight of Garth’s recent purchase. “Congratulations”, Tanner said to Ganen, “You’re no longer the biggest loser on this ship.” The Mandalore might have gotten angry if he wasn’t so stunned by what he was seeing. Most of the PC’s began ribbing Garth about this mess of a ‘vehicle’, though he continued to defend her and insisted that she just needed some work.

A closer examination by various crew and passengers quickly revealed that the vehicle had quite a colorful history. Several of the holes in the body were actually from blaster fire, and traces of both glitterstim and ryll spice were found on the upholstery. One of the headlight wells was full of water from were condensation had seeped in through a crack, and Mina discovered that there was some tiny thing moving around in it. Tillian, after declaring that group activities would henceforth be held in the port hold, took a look at it and hypothesized that it was actually a larval sarlacc!

Month 4; Day 09

Uncertain as to how quickly word might spread about a pair of lightsaber-wielding urchins, the PC’s got up at 04:00 in the morning so that they could depart as soon as they were done fueling. Ganen had actually headed back to the strip club while everyone else was making fun of Garth’s airspeeder, and he rolled back in less than half an hour before they were ready to depart. His armor was smeared here and there with colorful makeup and glitter, and he vaguely smelled of peach-scented perfume (which prompted J’brel to occasionally address him as ‘Peaches’ over the next few days (which worked on an additional level given the hue of his armor)).

Though they now had enough fuel to reach Rago, the PC’s decided that they didn’t want to be running on fumes once they were that close to the edge of civilization. Wanting to at least make it to the other side of the Inner Rim before they stopped again, they settled on the Voltare system. It contained a space station primarily dedicated to ship services and entertainment, and there was almost no Imperial presence there. The only downside was that it was in the middle of a lightning-filled nebula and the approach was a little tricky and dangerous.

The next morning at breakfast, Zatt was looking a little mopey and depressed; not at all like his usual self. “When I suggested using the story of taking me to Glee Anselm”, he replied when asked, “I was kinda hoping we’d have to at least make a stop there to keep the story legit for going back.” Asked as to the planet’s significance, he continued…

“It’s the Nautolan homeworld”, he said. “I was born there, but… I hadn’t even grown limbs yet when I left. I’ve never even seen another Nautolan except for an old image of my grand-uncle.” Queried about his grand-uncle, Zatt identified him as Kit Fisto: a member of the Jedi Council and a general during the Clone Wars. J’brel had never met him, but she knew who he was.

Feeling guilty about the trouble he’d caused, Zatt couldn’t ask the PC’s to make another stop. But when they realized that it was actually right on the Namadii Corridor, they offered; and the boy’s disposition vastly improved.

The conversation then suddenly shifted to J’brel and her lightsaber pike. She quickly pointed out that, contrary to popular belief, the weapons were not 100% exclusive to the Jedi prior to the fall of the Old Republic (though she never actually denied being one).

“We’ve stopped at half a dozen systems where you could have gotten off”, Ganen observed, “but you haven’t; so I assume that you want to be a member of this crew. If that’s the case, I hope that you know that you can talk to us.” When J’brel replied by asking to see his face, he added “Or you’re welcome to keep your secrets if you prefer.”

Garth managed to get the possible larval sarlacc extracted from the headlight well and then sealed it in a test tube. He then spent the rest of the day working on his airspeeder while his crewmates made fun of it.

Sekar was eventually out and about and was very quick to join in on the ridicule. After paying R4 the twenty credits she owed him, she made him another bet: that the airspeeder would eventually explode with enough force to cause a hull breach.

Month 4; Day 10

The highlight of the next day was Tillian setting up deflection practice for herself, Mina, Tanner, and Zatt. To that end, she asked if any of the crew would be willing to shoot at them with blasters set on stun.

Tanner got in more practice than the other three put together.

Month 4; Day 11

The Seventh Moon reached the Voltare system around 08:00 the next morning; and though Garth managed to pilot the ship through the nebula without any damage, everyone ended up rather space-sick. As soon as they touched down in a hangar aboard Amparra Station, J’brel ran to find a restroom which wasn’t inside the ship. The students were firmly informed by the PC’s that they would not be leaving the ship for any reason; a decision which Tillian was happy to back up.

On her way back to the ship, J’brel ran into an attractive young woman who was wearing a black dress with a Sabacc card (specifically an ace of sabers) pinned to the strap. The woman was going from ship to ship in the hangar handing out coupon cards good for a free beverage at any facility on the station owned by Ace Entertainment. J’brel took five; one for herself and each of her currently out-and-about crewmates. “Ace has all of your entertainment needs covered and top-rate security”, the woman added. “Bad things tend to happen to patrons at those locally-owned places.”

Several PC’s were well aware of the fact that the Ace Entertainment corporation was actually owned by a particularly vicious Hutt named Sibarra. Tanner was aware of this as well, and recommended that they should all take the time to do some serious damage to their local operations. Believing the PC’s to be far more motivated by money than by doing the right thing, he emphasized that Sibarra’s local flunkies would invariably have gobs of cash lying around.

Garth actually thought it sounded like a worthwhile endeavor; though Ganen, Mon, and J’brel were all firmly opposed. “When you agree with Tanner”, the Mandalore said to Garth, “it’s time to rethink your life!”

Sekar meanwhile had no interest in the debate, but did want to go get a drink. Given that they didn’t plan to leave the ship; Mon, J’brel, and Ganen all gave her their coupons.

A couple of hours and four big drinks later, Sekar returned; rather a bit tipsy and carrying a tray with eleven milkshakes on it. Tillian surprisingly broke the rules and drank the one which was handed to her, though Tob gave his to Zatt.

When the ship was fueled up and ready to go, the PC’s departed without incident [and J’brel faded back into the shadows from whence she came].

Tillain gave a lecture that evening on balancing civic responsibility with common sense. The whole thing was quite obviously a thinly-veiled argument between she and her brother regarding their inaction on Amparra Station.

Around midnight that night; Garth, Ganen, and Mon were all awakened when R4 rolled into their bunk room fussing up a storm. The PC’s got up immediately and followed the droid as he quickly rolled back out into the main hall. Just across from the door to the boarding ramp and side airlock, Tanner was lying face-down on the deck; a small puddle of blood slowly growing from around his head.

Garth asked Mon to grab his med-kit as he moved to check on the boy. He was unconscious and had a nasty gash on left temple, but it was nothing life-threatening. Looking around, Garth spotted some blood on the wall where Tanner’s head had impacted. Had it been lower to the ground, he might have guessed that the boy had simply fallen; but it was way too high for a fall to have generated enough momentum before impact to have done this kind of damage.

Ganen meanwhile opened the door to the starboard hold and saw Zatt and Tob seemingly asleep in their bedrolls. He then closed the door and made his way around to the other side of the ship. Bathilla, to his surprise, was already up and moving towards the sound of the commotion. Asked why she was up, she said that she couldn’t sleep and had gone to the galley to get some water. Informed that Tanner had been hurt, she opened the door to the escape pod; where Tillian had apparently been sleeping ever since Mina and her brother had attempted to get in some alone time there. Ganen meanwhile opened the door to the port hold; finding Mina already awake and sitting on her bed roll. As each of the girls ran to check on Tanner, Garth alerted Sekar as to what was going on.

While Garth (and now also Mina) continued to work on Tanner’s head wound, Ganen once again opened the door to the starboard hold; hoping to ascertain whether both of the boys were actually asleep or just pretending to be. Unfortunately, the chatter now emanating from the hall caused them both to stir as soon as the door was opened.

As the boys joined the crowd in the hall, Ganen took R4 aside into the circuitry bay where he could plug in and put text on a display screen. The droid indicated that he had first heard the port bay door open and then close; and then a minute or two later, he heard the starboard hold door do the same. Only a few seconds later, he heard the starboard door open again; followed almost immediately by a metallic ‘thunk’. Upon going to check out the ‘thunk’, he saw Tanner unconscious on the floor; and immediately rolled into the men’s bunk room to alert everyone.

With this new information, Ganen suspected that the boy had been attacked by either Zatt or Tob; but when he went to talk to them, he found the latter staring at the door to the infirmary and looking so scared that he was about to wet himself. Asked what was wrong, he never took his eyes off of the infirmary door; instead just eking out in a whisper: “There’s something in there.”

Meanwhile, Garth and Mina had managed to wake up Tanner. They’d done a good job closing up his wound so that it wouldn’t scar, but he was still concussed and not feeling well. He also had zero recollection of what had happened.

Ganen immediately knew what Tob was probably talking about, but made no protest as Tanner was settled into the bed in the infirmary. The remaining children were then ordered back to their respective cargo holds; except for Tillian, who was once again invited to an impromptu crew meeting.

Thus reignited the discussion which had been going on and off since the day that all of the PC’s had originally met: the discussion about the creepy Revan dagger which was still sitting in their smuggling hold (which, incidentally, was on the other side of the infirmary which Tob had been staring at in terror). Ganen and others now suspected that some malign force which was attached to the weapon might have attacked Tanner or ‘possessed’ one of the other boys to do it. Tillian agreed that either was in the realm of possibility.

Garth once advocated just dumping the damned thing into space, but Ganen held his position that they needed to turn it over to someone more knowledgeable of such things. The Mandalore then firmly began kicking himself as he realized that they could have given it to Ki-Adi-Mundi back on Naboo!

Mon was initially quiet, but then brought up a point which hadn’t occurred to anyone else: if this was an attack by some kind of evil force, then why the heck would it attack the single most obnoxious and troublesome person on the entire ship? As to the knife, he suggested a compromise: keep the weapon until they could give it to Master Mundi, but get it encased in a block of lead at the first opportunity.

Ultimately, no firm decisions were reached; and the rest of the night passed without incident.
