Just what I need, a new project

Jun 16, 2009 12:32

It wasn't the first time this has happened, but it got me to thinking. I received an email from some random SCA person in An Tir who requested permission to re-print some of my newsletter articles in their local newsletter. Of course I said yes, but some of them need their e-links double checked (which I will do soon).  I am always stunned when ( Read more... )

I think this a great idea... have you looked to see if there is anything similar in use by the folks who have been ding the TI articles?

You may want to also contact the Known World Chronicler to see if she has any input or thoughts for you...

Wooooo! The only thing I'd add in would be a place to store release forms for said articles; you're required to have one on file if you publish an article in your group's newsletter (per kingdom rules).

I am all for this.

I'll probably cook up a standard boilerplate that can be printed off of the site. Maybe Petey can create a form that will automatically plug in the article title and relevant names to be printed. Like a button at the bottom that you clicky and it pops open another window with the release to print.

I don't think I have ever given anyone a form for any of the articles I have written. Stupid rule.

It might be worth thinking about using a Creative Commons license, specifically the Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works flavor.

I generally forget to ask, but I'm going to have to go through the back issues and get releases from people.

It is stupid, but reflects out current lame copyright climate.

I think it's a really good idea. I don't know that I have any articles that I can lay my hands on, but if I write one, I'll send it along.

Question?

Can our project documentation essays be included?

The answer to that would be maybe. It would depend on the length and the writing style. The idea here is to have a database full of things that can be plugged directly into a group's newsletter. So you need the appropriate length and readability.

The requirements for documentation are usually, aherm, a little more boring and extensive. ;) I know that the documentation for my 12th Cen Sicilian feast was 19 pages long - therefore unsuitable. But it resides in the Florilegium for anyone to take a gander at. And most of the documentation for my A&S entries would not go well in a newsletter.

The question to ask yourself is "would the average Jane Scadian like to read this for fun?" If the answer is "Not really, but the cooking geeks would love it" maybe it isn't the best fit. But hey, I have no idea what you have in mind, it might be perfect.
