Oh, Castiel, never change. XD This is really good, an interesting moment between the brothers.

Thank you! It was supposed to be a lighthearted reunion, but Castiel turned out to be a little more depressed over the war in Heaven than I'd expected.

There are so many great things about this fic - I really like your idea of Gabriel residing in a god, rather than a person. That's something I'll be thinking about for a while. And I relly liked that although he was still burning with power, this fic was filled with mourning for his lost grace.

I think you conveyed the heaviness of Castiel's role very well - the constant references to what would be tactical, to the war, to all those trains of thought that he had to consciously pull himself away from. It was very effective.

Oh, I loved this. I'm seriously warming up to Bal, but I do miss Gabe, and I wish he'd gotten more character-development moments with Cas to make up for those earlier season eps when he was nothing but a one-dimensional bully. What a waste! :/ And it's so nice to read fics where Gabriel's role is something more than Sam's love-thing, doing nothing but incessantly eating candy and sexually harassing him (I honestly do not know where that characterization came from; it doesn't gel at all with the Gabe I know in canon. But that's a rant for another day). The Gabriel here acts exactly as he does in the show: powerful and flippant and secretly afraid, and so very, very lonely. I can totally buy that he's not dead, just in hiding, and Cas visits him now and then for advice and brotherly conversations. :D

Thank you! Gabriel fascinates me more than possibly anyone else on the show. I want to know more about him, but I can't, so I made it up. As you do.

I don't really know where that came from either. I don't mind the idea of a crackish interpretation like that, but it's definitely not really Gabriel. I think people forget that Loki is notoriously one of the more vicious Norse gods. The Gabriel/Loki thing kept me away from watching SPN until just this past November and now it's one of my favorite things to play with in fic. (Shameless plug: I wrote another fic in which Loki, sans Gabriel, comes back to take revenge on Gabriel's killer.)
