Kids laughed as they played hide and seek. Dogs barked. Babies cried and mothers gossiped. Old couples took strolls near the pond. The sky was a bit overcast, but it was a fairly bright day. A light breeze blew on Ohno’s neck. He shivered and hugged himself tight.

Ohno shifted a little on his bench as he continued to look across to the other side of the park, where a man was bent over, looking and pointing at the pigeons with his son. Hey, he didn’t mean to stalk. It was pure coincidence that today they both happened to be in the same place at the same time. A son, ne. Ohno wondered. How old could he be? Had it really been that long?

The man seemed to laugh along with his son’s reactions as some of the birds fluttered away. When was the last time I heard him laugh? Ohno found himself lost in his own queries, forcing him to bring back memories he never thought he’d need to remember again.

“Arigatou gozaimashita!” the bartender bowed as Nino handed him a tip and gave a salute, then turned around and clung his arms around Ohno to step out into the alley. Ohno chuckled as they walked through the neighborhood in the direction of his apartment.

“I take it you’re staying at my place tonight,” Ohno said. “You look more drunk than usual.”

“I am not,” Nino replied with a sharp voice. “Drunk, that is. As for staying at your place, yes. Expect to be sharing your bed again tonight.”

“I have a pretty comfy couch, you know.”

“And a pretty comfy bed.”

Ohno chuckled again as they reached his door and swiftly opened it. He was actually used to sharing his bed with Nino since he was 11. They were very close friends like that. “I don’t think your wife would like us sleeping together very much. Don’t be surprised if you find a body bag in here one day,” Ohno joked. “She probably killed me for this.”

“Oh, quit exaggerating, Satoshi. It’s not like we’re having sex or anything,” Nino scowled. “Besides, she’s not my wife. We’re not married until tomorrow.”

“Did you hear yourself just now? You’re getting married tomorrow,” Ohno said. “Shouldn’t you be sleeping in her bed instead?”

“She’s staying at her parents’ tonight. Besides, then it wouldn’t be legit. We’ve been staying away from each other for a few days now so we can heat things up for the honeymoon, you know?”

Ohno raised his eyebrows and glared. “I don’t need to know!”

They took off their jackets and headed for the bedroom. “Aaaw, why not? Are you jealous?” Nino teased as he went behind Ohno to put his hands around the older man’s waist. “Is my Satoshi jealous of his Kazu’s first night? Is he? Is he now? Ooooh…” Nino continued to make fun and started tickling Ohno, who giggled uncontrollably and eventually fell on the bed.

“Kazu, stop!” Ohno yelled through his laughs.

Surprisingly, Nino, who was now sitting on top of Ohno, immediately obeyed and stopped. The younger man then leaned in and gave him a peck on the nose. They both smiled at each other as Ohno’s laugh faded, a brief silence growing between them. All joking aside, they both knew that some part of what Nino said was true.

“Haha, so this is your last night being single, ne Kazu-chan?” Ohno said to lighten the moment. “How should we celebrate?”

Usually when hearing the word “celebrate”, the brat would ramble on about how Ohno should splurge on buying him new Wii games or treat him to that really good hamburger down the street. But this time, he was quiet and still.

His dark eye bags somehow gave the impression that he was tired, but he also looked like he was longing for something. That gaze. It was hunger. Not for hamburger, but something much closer. Nino crouched down and gently landed his lips on top of Ohno’s, who let out a startled gasp. “Kazu-chan…”

Putting his small hands on Ohno’s round cheeks, Nino continued to kiss him, roughly this time. He was letting Ohno know how bad he wanted this. Ohno’s fingers rummaged through Nino’s hair, then down to caress his neck, where he nibbled on slightly and made Nino whimper.

Grabbing on to Nino’s shoulders, Ohno flopped upwards and switched their positions. He slid his right hand under Nino’s shirt and played with his already hardened nipples. Nino let out moans, which were soon muffled by more kisses, and lifted Ohno’s shirt to feel around his abs. Their thighs collided against one another, grazing each other’s crotch and something rigid close to it. A warning in the back of Nino’s head lit up. He knows he shouldn’t be doing this…

In the middle of Nino’s self-contemplation Ohno managed to almost completely undress Nino, leaving him in only his boxers. Wasting no time, Nino did the same to his partner. Then they both stared at each other like that for a while, soaking in the moment.

“You know, it’s not too late to stop now,” Ohno whispered shyly. He senses the guilt, too. To Ohno, if anyone should be responsible for the current situation, it’s him. After all, he is the one who was leading them on.

Nino shocked Ohno when he shook his head lightly, if not to his dismay. “Don’t… Not now…” Those lustful eyes were too much for Ohno to resist. A euphoric glow seemed to take over Nino that made Ohno’s heart beat fast. Even faster when he found the younger man’s hand cupping his stiff member, causing Ohno’s grip on Nino’s shoulders to tighten as he held back a moan. Ohno bent down, wanting to take in and lick the brat’s nipples, but a tug at the back of his head interrupted him.

“Satoshi, listen to me,” said Nino as he neared his mouth with the older man’s ear. “I may be getting married tomorrow, but you know who my heart is with after all these years. I may not be the best at showing it to you, but you kind of mean the world to me,” he trembled as he tried to keep his voice steady. “I may not be there with you all the time, but you are always on my mind, even when I don’t want you to be,” Nino chuckled and smiled. The smile of an angel. Then came the three words Ohno was afraid of the most but sort of been waiting to hear. “I love you…”

A small tear fell down the corner of Nino’s right eye, trickling down towards his ear. Ohno has never seen a teardrop so beautiful. He wanted to say something equally wonderful in return, but the truth was there were no words. He was left speechless.

But before he could come up with anything, their lips locked again in a soft yet firm kiss. Everything about it felt so sincere. Maybe they didn’t need words. Maybe all they needed was this.

“Stay with me,” Ohno finally answered when they broke apart. “Just stay with me. Don’t go…”

Ohno never saw him again.

After the wedding, Nino moved to Kyoto to live with his new wife and her parents. Ohno would have contacted him first but he didn’t even bother to give a new number or email. The two hadn’t heard a word from each other since the night they confessed and made love. Had he done it on purpose? Ohno kept wondering. It is a very Nino thing to do…

And here, Ohno just happened to be eating his lunch at the park when he spotted a familiar figure from afar. The man was now also sitting at a bench, closing his distance to Ohno than before. His son seemed to be enjoying himself feeding the pigeons. The man was watching with a genuine grin, whereas Ohno had been watching the man.

Ohno half hoped he would notice his presence; half hoped time would freeze so he could just stare at him forever. It was too good to be true.

But as if telepathy worked its way effortlessly, the man suddenly turned towards Ohno. Then the man’s grin slowly grew fainter and fainter. The shock was obvious. Ohno didn’t know if it was a good thing or not, him being shocked like that.

Not knowing what else to do, Ohno attempted a light wave and a forced a smirk. Yes, it’s me.

When the man returned the gesture, Ohno’s heart lifted a little. He truly thought he would never be able to see that smile again. The smile of an angel. At first Ohno thought of coming over to him to start interrogating. Where have you been all these years? What were you thinking? Don’t you know how much I’ve missed you? But somehow Ohno figured that probably wouldn’t be the best idea. They spent the next hour gazing at each other, chin in hand.

Maybe they didn’t need words. Maybe all they needed was this.

The man was Nino.

A/N: Ahh, something is wrong with me today! I can't quite put what I had in my head into words everybody else would understand. Anyway, here is my second failed at angst-attempted fic, heheh. What do you think? :)
