Harukanaru Toki no Naka De 6....

I don't post in here as often as I used to, which is a shame, and entirely because I'm a lazy person (or busy person, depending on which way you look at it). But this merits a post at the very least.

I'm sure that by now all hardcore intelligent Haruka fans will already know about this, but I felt the need to babble a bit anyhow.

Haruka 6.
Some ramble-ranting below the cut )

Yeah, that's kinda how I feel about it. I will get it because I've played all the others, and I feel I shouldn't really criticise what I haven't played...but it doesn't fill me with a lot of excitement. For me it's going to have to hang on unique character stories, and that's hard to do after five existing games. I grant they did (in my view, not in everyone's view) a great job with character constructs in Haruka 5, even though the seiyuu were new and all of that - but it's hard to keep it fresh. I imagine they have an idea in place - but I worry it might just be they've forgotten they have the option of going back. As you said, it implies a faraway time. This is not a faraway time for me. With Yuugi and Genbu Kaiden, it was fine to use Taishou because it tied in with Genbu and Takiko...but it doesn't feel Haruka-ish to me ( ... )

I did go look up the Sengoku Ange manga after you mentioned it and apparently there are a whole 3 volumes. But the whole concept was just so somehow ODD to me that I shied away from trying to obtain a copy. If you do, let me know what it's like ;)

I really like the Taiga drama, but I confess that when they get to a bit where the main character is about to be finished off, I tend to stop watching so I don't end up crying (like Yoshitsune...ahem).

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's feeling cautiously optimistic -- okay, perhaps outright "lukewarm" is a more accurate term -- about Haruka 6. History has always been my weakest subject, so while I appreciated any exposure to important historical figures, there's really something not very Haruka (both literally and figuratively) about a Taisho era setting.

I'd been hoping for Sengoku (even though that would be thoroughly covered by another Koei franchise) or Edo (but as you mentioned, H5 complications -- I still question why they made that choice since it shakes up some series-wide assumptions I had for the canon), but as you said, the Taisho doesn't seem like there would be enough samurai/warriors involved to satisfy.

And I, too, would love for the H5 manga to continue although I did get my Ryouma/Takasugi fix so I'm quite happy.

I really wonder if it's because the other eras have been covered (except Kemmu as far as I'm aware, which makes me just plain cross) by other game franchises and such like. Either way, I assume the purpose of it is because it dawned on me next year is probably 15 years of Haruka, and they like celebrating such things...

Maybe they just wanted a complete shakeup in terms of the series. Although given that the past games have pretty much grabbed attention based on the settings as much as the character bios, it's a huge gamble in my opinion. Especially if the H5 manga has been stopped as opposed to being on hiatus (I really don't know for sure either way, can't find anything about it's status).

I really liked the era of Haruka 5 - back then samurai at least still existed. Now, the Taishou era of Haruka 6 just seems a little boring in comparison...

I would also have loved a Sengoku era version of Haruka. Which kind of got me wondering which samurai they'd use for the Hachiyou - my personal preferences would be Sanada Yukimura, Date Masamune, Mori Motonari, Akechi Mitsuhide, Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin (can't decide the last two). Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu would likely be supporting characters or villains like Yoritomo and the Heike in Haruka 3. XD

As for Haruka's apparent fetish for possessed older brothers dying, we can just save Sanada Nobuyuki dying on Yukimura or something.

I don't like the return to the old Haruka 1/2 formatting for Haruka 6. I could live with the Taishou era, albeit it's not interesting in the same way to me as earlier stuff, but I really don't like the format. I liked 5. Never mind.

Still want a Muromachi. Not so bothered about Sengoku. Everyone does Sengoku stuff...albeit preferable to Taishou, so long as it's done in the same kind of structure as 3/4/5.

Welp. I can deal with Muromachi - apparently at least Motonari and Mitsuhide lived during that period.
