Thanks. Only problem is that I reckon the whole book will come to at least 150,000 words, so I have a way to go to finish it. At least I've made a good start. I've been thinking about writing it for years, but never got it going.
It's SF. This is the synopsis I put up on NaNoWriMo:
Long ago, an outpost on the edge of explored space lost contact with Earth. When a mysterious unmanned ship arrived the inhabitants were too old and infirm to survive a journey in it, and decided to raise a group of children to crew it. Twenty years later, their children are sent off to explore and bring back help. They arrive at an uncharted, partly terraformed planet and find the descendants of a crashed military expedition living a precarious existence on the slopes of a giant volcano. They learn that the desert plains are inhabited by wild and possibly alien savages, but one of the explorers meets them and discovers that they may not be at all what they appear.
