Yeah - I saw that robot dog video yesterday! I'm not sure they'll make a useful, all-purpose robot for the home anytime soon though. The first thing they'll need to get right is to make them quiet, and machines with lots of joints and motors never are.
I mean, they have yet to make a popular robot vacuum cleaner, despite them being around for over a decade now. No one likes vacuuming, yet they haven't been able to make a robot that can do that one single task to people's satisfaction.
We've got dog shelters, but I'm still hoping to offload them using classifieds. The speed with which they've been evolving makes me believe vacuuming robots are not very far off! It's also interesting and characteristic that Google have been considering selling Boston Dynamics. Obviously one of the most important things (in the world) going on there and they want to get rid of them - ironically, it reminds me of Google founders back in the day trying to sell their algo to search engine companies, and everyone turning them down.
