Is it not more important to let people touch God in their current situations than to run around and try to improve their lot. If impoverished people are assisted in reaching out to God, is He not a better provider than what we can do with our limited resources. I am not saying that we should not provide tangible resources that are at our disposal, but I do believe that in ALL circumstances one can experience the hand of God and peace of soul.

Definatley :) I completely agree with you (whoever you are..lol) Nothing can even remotely compare to His ability to provide peace of the soul, restoration etc... The place where counselors can come in and provide the smallest amount of help to people is exactly where you mentioned - providing some tangible resources to aid people in reaching God. Helping people to see their potential in God (sometimes what you can't see on your own, someone with skin on can help you see).
