Quantum of Solace

If this film doesn't live up to Casino Royale, it's hardly the movie's fault. What would? The only reason the question is relevant is because of how this film is a direct sequel to that one. Does that mean this film doesn't stand on it's own? Not at all. Sure, it does feel like a Bourne movie instead of a Bond movie, but after 22 of these fuckers I'm a bit tired of the regular Bond films. For the next one I'd like a better ballance, but that's the next one. What's here works well.

I must admit though, this movie being less than a year out of it's release makes it a bit harder to talk about objectivly, so instead here's some observations:

The sequence set at the Tosca performance is the highlight for me, for several reasons. 1) it shows Bond being cleaver rather than a blunt instrument. 2) There's a great chase/fight scene here with the sound turned down, with only the opera playing. And 3) Tosca is just a badass opera, damnit!

So the villain's names include Mrrs. Greene, White and Slate. Do people think this might be a Clue reference, or a Reservoir Dogs reference?

Why would they show Ms. Fields in that particular coat, and NOT satisfy the audience's curiosity as to weather or not she has any clothes on underneath? Or was that just me wondering...

Can we introduce a Constitutional amendment requiring that Jeffrey Wright be Felix Leiter in perpituity?

This may be the last Bond film currently out, but I just might do a wrap-up piece later this week. Stay tuned, those who care...
