Dream Things

Sometimes I go to sleep and experience vivid hallucinations. I would not say that I have any "recurring dreams" - actually, I usually don't remember any dreams at all. But one common or repeated element that I remember from time to time in different dreams, is about running. I occasionally remember a dream in which I am running away from something ( Read more... )

Running is one of my dream things, too; but I'm always fleeing the authorities, sometimes because I've committed a crime, and sometimes because the authorities just happen to be evil and feel like persecuting me. Just as dreams about falling off a cliff rarely ever end with your smacking into the canyon floor, my dreams of running away from the law rarely ever actually end with my being caught. Instead, I either wake up in a cold sweat (metaphorically speaking, I've never done so literally, that I know of), or my mind eventually "changes the channel" to some other topic ( ... )

Isn't it interesting and kind of comforting that no matter how unique we all area and how different our life experiences, our dreams all follow very similar patterns?

I only get job dreams when either the job is very repetitive or I am very stressed. Like Brad, I used to have endless scanning items dreams when I worked as a cashier at Chocolate World. And when I started my airline job I used to have dreams that involved needing to know the codes for all the airports. (One such dream actually continued after I had opened my eyes and started moving around and talking, so that by the time I had awakened fully I realized I was arguing with (a fully-awake) Brad about the lack of free snacks on flights to Houston.)

I had a series of lucid dreams once. They were all about flying, but I was able to consciously realize in the dream that I was dreaming and control what I was doing in the dream and where I was going without waking up. They were pretty cool.
Otherwise, my only recurring dreams seem to be during my most stressful times as a medic, when I dreamed a couple of times about patients trying to bite me while I was treating them. I figured the psychological significance at the time was that my job was eating me alive. Thank God I don't have those dreams these days!
I hope you and Bongsu had a wonderful holiday :-)

I used to have scary dreams about running away from things. Most frequently the thing chasing me was a large dog or other frightening animal. The dog would run much faster than its normal speed, while I was stuck running in slow motion. I'd always wake up just as the animal reached me. Those dreams stopped years ago and I don't know why.
