(Some) people are good at making decisions based on rational estimates of probability. Card games are a very good example of this. People who play a lot of poker, for example, get pretty good at figuring out the actual probability of their desired outcome, and making bets accordingly ( Read more... )

I think you're selling humans' intuition a bit short here; most people are perfectly capable of a rough understanding of probabilities without any formal education in the subject. The problem is when our observations or experiences of a particular phenomenon are not really a representative sample ( ... )
