Things...

-Went to Blacksburg with Steve and Anita last weekend for a tournament. Went 1-2 in SSF4:AE. Both my losses were to really strong players and I beat a Blanka player, so I can live with that. Also ended up meeting other players from C'ville that actually live within walking distance of my place. More people for all nighter Thursdays is never a bad thing.

-Also got to visit my Dad while I was in the area. The right side of his face is paralyzed, which is a little sad, but he's doing pretty well all the same. We ended up hanging out with his friend Curtis in his badass hangar of a garage, playing fighters on a ginormous CRT TV and bullshittin otherwise. Was a great mix of old school and new school, even if my Dad approaches our hobbies with a certain willful ignorance and contempt.

-Getting in the mindset of wanting to pick up my education again. Going to investigate funding from work this time since it's apparently a thing. Think I'll just do one class a semester this time since I know damn well I have a tendency to be a slacker and/or get easily distracted. All the same, learning new things, new skills, all along my general interests that I may wish to apply to something fruitful down the line (regardless of how long it takes) seems good.

-Dealing with wage garnishments like a bawss through finely tuned budgeting and meticulous planning. I've come to the conclusion that getting a halfway decent car by the middle of next year should be doable since I can theoretically save at least 200 from each paycheck and still be able to afford rent/bills/food/(insert potential emergency expenditure here). I just have to avoid things like eating out, smoking (and I've lost interest in that for the most part, so yay), classy hookers, helicopter rides with Tom Sellick, random energy drinks that are terrible for me anyway. More making my own food and relying on the hype that burns within my soul!

-GAAAAH SO HYPE FOR ULTIMATE MARVEL 3 NEXT WEEK! I'M GONNA FUCKIN TURN ON CAPS LOCK AND GUSH ABOUT NEMESIS AND DR.STRANGE AND HOW PHOENIX IS STILL A BAD BITCH THAT'LL MAKE KIDS CRY SALTY TEARS ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL FUCKIN DAY AND THE AIR X-FACTORS THAT'LL MAKE SOME CHARACTERS A LOT MORE DANGEROUS IF YOU GET THAT HAPPY BIRTHDAY COMBO THAT MAKES PEOPLE YELL "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK".................nah but really, I'm looking forward to it. Gonna put down Street Fighter 4 for it since I already loved Marvel 3 more and found it to be way more fun, but just caved to the pressure of SF4 being way more accessible both online and in local play. It may be a little harder to get real matches in but I figure that HEY having a car might be good for that too since Richmond players eat that shit up like candy. Oh and top 32's for Marvel 3 at Evo had a surprising amount of Richmond players. SEEMS KINDA GOOD OHMYGAWD!

-Also trying to contain my hype for Grand Theft Auto 5. They're taking the shit back to San Andreas. No fucking contest. I mean, okay, so I didn't start this LJ until I moved to C'ville, but if I had started it before, you all would have read a shit ton of "HOLY CRAP I STUMBLED UPON A CRAZY BUG THAT TELEPORTED ME MILES INTO THE SKY ABOVE THE OCEAN AND I WAS ALL "WHAAAAAAAAT?"" or "Holy crap we've all been playing San Andreas so much because it's probably the best thought out sandboxer ever designed with tons of random things to do and see and a ton of customization options and a badass soundtrack that fills me with 90's nostalgia and hilarious talk shows on the fake radio stations and HOLY CRAP MY OWN PERSONAL FUCKING AIRFIELD ARE YOU FOR REAL?", and so on. Granted, Grand Theft Auto 4 wasn't quite as addictive and good since they decided to streamline the experience and focus more on utilizing the new engine, new ways of immersing the player in the environment and with other characters, and so on, but it was still a lot of fun and I dedicated a healthy chunk of time to it. It really came into it's own with the DLC pack "Ballad of Gay Tony", when they decided to stop making the stories so goddamn depressing and give you more varied things to do. It started to feel more like San Andreas at that point, a little closer to perfection. It's kinda funny that in their efforts to immerse players more by means making it feel more real, it ended up being a little less immersive due to the lack of freedom and customization. I guess it goes to show that a game doesn't need to try to be realistic as much as it just needs to be fucking fun, but that's kinda elementary isn't it?
I GO!
