I've been seeing a lot of calls for people on the left (defined very broadly as "everyone who opposed Trump") to have empathy for Trump voters. To listen and respond to their concerns. To reach out to the Trump voters they know and try to change their minds with gentle persuasion and calm talks. That, I'm being told everywhere, is the work in ( Read more... )

The middle ground between 'I want to live' and 'I want you dead' is... where, exactly?

And why should anyone look for it?

Where have you gone since this? The fight is now everywhere around us since November. The left has its first martyr of the election and more will come. Have you stopped raging or have you now gone quiet as you work against this outrage in a non-public space? I'm a New York born POC and I have now been livid for almost a full year. Does livid have a cure?

I'm around, I'm just not on LJ much. I only post here when I have an essay-length piece that I think isn't being said better anywhere else. For more day to day stuff, I'm on Twitter, mostly retweeting and doing some raging as well. I'm doing my best in the classroom, on the phone with politicians (for what its worth, and I doubt it's worth much, but it can't hurt, I suppose), and with donations to fight. Been to a rally or two, for what that's worth. I don't do the direct action stuff that I truly value because I'm the single mother of a toddler, and don't feel I can take chances. I'm also looking for a synagogue to be part of that takes social justice work really seriously.

I don't know if livid has a cure...mine has developed alongside nauseated anxiety. What are you doing with yours? I'm honestly asking, because I'd love to feel like I'm doing more than I am with mine, and I will take all the suggestions I can get.
